As Synth-Pop got revived as Electroclash/Electro House, Rave got revived as Nu-Rave etc, do you think Big Beat should get a revival treatment in the next year or two? I think so, as labels like Jalapeno records are making breakbeat tunes with heavy funk samples and scratching, and the Fatboy is releasing a new LP this year (plus the 10th anniversery of You’ve Come A Long Way Baby), I think we need a Big Beat revival!
1 February 2008 at 13h57 #12275who knows.i hope producers will start making house records ,with it’s funky soul – leave that electro shit in garbage! as for fatboy new album we don’t know if he will do something like poolokavile or something more dance flavor like halfway between.. and his albums before it.i hope he will go in dance direction. 8-)
3 February 2008 at 14h20 #12281Big Beat should be revived and kept alive in spirit every year as far as I’m concerned, I just loved the craziness and mixed mayhem of it all. The Chemicals still keep the seed alive occasionaly and I came across that act Kids In Tracksuits – they’re very big beat esque. Worth a listen.
3 February 2008 at 16h20 #12282I really like Kids in Tracksuits too. Freddy Fresh still does Big Beat, which is nice, and if you look on the track “The Final Frontier” on my Myspace (see signature), it’s like old Big Beat with a bit of a chillout twist to it.

Of electronica, I do enjoy house, but it was big beat that got me interested in the genre.
8 February 2008 at 21h01 #12309I totally agree, especially when you go back and listen to Fatboys On The Floor At The Boutique – absolute heaven!!! I think thats why I liked his Electric Proms / annie Mac big beat set last year, I love the electicism of it all, as opposed to rigid genre based sets. Does anyone remeber a 1997 big beat mix cd called something like Brit Hop & Amyl House – it had Sam Server / Fried Funk Food on it – classic!
9 February 2008 at 8h15 #12310I’ve got that CD. It’s Brilliant, and I think it’s mixed by Tom from the Chemical Bros. As it’s the 10th anniversary of You’ve Come A Long Way Baby, I also think for Big Beach Boutique 4, Norm should do a Big Beat set, though I don’t know if he would do it, though.
